As we have mentioned a hundred times in this blog, there is health at every size (HAES); meaning you can be a fat person living a very healthy lifestyle. YES, IT’S TRUE, and my sister will post something about this SOON. Anyway, since I have already established that this post will be a “health-y” one (haha), I wanna talk about something that really makes me and my body feel good and worked out: ZUMBA.

You’ve probably heard about this aerobics-dance craze because it’s been taking the world by storm. I first found out about Zumba on the internet, while scanning for some exercise videos on youtube. As I desperately clicked from one vid to the next, I chanced upon a specific one ( which I can't find! >:( I posted a different one below), only because it’s had over a million views. Intrigued, I checked it out while copying the routine myself. Being the booty-shaking freak that I am, I INSTANTLY FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS FORM OF EXERCISE. I’ve searched for more videos of it ever since, and even burned my own DVDs!

FYI: it was an accidental invention!

Celebrity fitness trainer, "Beto" Perez, stumbled upon the concept of Latin-inspired dance-fitness in his native Cali, Colombia in the mid-‘90s.

One day, he walked into his aerobics class and realized he had forgotten his aerobics music. Thinking quickly, he grabbed whatever tapes he had in his backpack. Beto's tapes were comprised of songs he loved, the traditional Latin salsa and merengue music he listened to all his life. But it was a challenge to improvise a whole class on the spot using non-traditional aerobics music. Beto rose to the challenge and from this last-minute improvisation a revolutionary new concept in fitness was born – the Zumba Fitness-Party™! The class soon became the most popular class at his fitness facility.

Amazing, right??? I love how improvisation turns someone into a millionaire. Quick and easy like that. Lucky basterd.

Here’s why I personally love Zumba:

It’s fun and easy to do. I don’t look forward to finishing the routine because I enjoy what it makes me do! The mixture of latin beats gets you on your groove in an instant. Their wide variety of upbeat tunes will not bore you, not even for a second, during the entire workout (from Salsa, to Reggaeton to Hip Hop, you'll definitely feel energized all the way!)!

Personally, I believe the exercises you enjoy doing the most won’t make you feel tired until after the workout. I suggest you try Zumba if you love dancing or at least are interested. It's first-timer friendly and dissects the dance moves so you can easily follow the routine when the real workout begins. If you're not into hitting the gym machines because it makes you wanna snooze, then I think Zumba will fit your taste. Just like what its tagline says: Ditch the workout and JOIN THE PARTY! Tell me how your first Zumba experience goes!!! REMEMBER TO HAVE FUN! Give it your best but don't be too hard on yourself. :)
