Glupa: It's good for you!

I find it funny that the media industry has found a way to once again make women feel inferior to make the products of their clients sell. The trick to make big bucks in the competitive consumer market is either to make people feel that what you're offering them is an actual necessity, or to trigger an insecurity or a self-esteem issue. With the booming of glutathione pills, creams and soaps today, varying advertisers have chosen to use the "beauty" card because they know how HUGE and COLOSSAL of a market the skin care/beauty industry is.

So what amuses me is the fact that these advertisers have chosen to focus on the side-effect of the antioxidant supplement instead of its MAJOR PURPOSES AND BENEFITS in the human body. Sadly, the one-sided aesthetics often win over health today, and y'all know that's not what this blog is all about, right???

Okay so lemme be scientific a bit and talk Glutathione 101.

  • Glutathione is a very interesting, very small molecule that's produced by the body and found in every cell. It's the body's most important antioxidant because it's within the cell.
  • The strong antioxidant effect of glutathione helps keep cells running smoothly. It also helps the liver remove chemicals that are foreign to the body, such as drugs and pollutants.
  • Animal and laboratory studies have demonstrated that glutathione has the potential to fight almost any disease, particularly those associated with aging, since free radical damage is the cause of many of the diseases of old age.
  • Glutathione is extremely important for maintaining intracellular health.

I have personally tried taking glutathione orally and through injectibles not because I wanted to have whiter skin (I don't wanna be transparent, haha) but because there was a period in my life when my body's immune system was so down and it was said to help in infertility and overall ovarian health (I was diagnosed with PCOS November 2011).

So among the several brands of glutathione, I was quite impressed with Glupa. Not only do they have a sensible market principle, they also formulated it with papaya which naturally raises the antioxidant in the body making it absorb it faster. Whitening, as the CEO of Glupa, Aiza Diuco-Soriano says, is not just about looking mestizahin.

Aiza points out, “I’ve discovered that this is not always the case, that there are in fact, more practical uses for skin whitening products than what people have been made to believe.”

In her own personal experience, the fair-skinned Aiza revealed that she first got interested in whitening products after giving birth. “Since I was pregnant with a baby boy, my hormonal imbalance was really at its worst, causing darkening in my underarm, groin, lines of the neck and nape.  That’s when I found out that if you have fair skin, your biggest problem was how to have an evened out skin tone since it was so easy to notice the dark spots, thus, I really tried whitening products specific for those dark spots."

“Glupa does not need to deceive the consumers by getting white-skinned models or celebrities and claim that their skin became white because of Glupa. This is what our rival products are already doing,” Aiza elucidates. “Yes, it helps skin to become fairer for those who want to become whiter and for those who are already blessed with fair complexion, it helps you maintain that glow. But, for someone like Boy Abunda who loves the glow of brown Filipino skin, Glupa helps by making his skin tone even.”

Also worth nothing is the fact that most people with fair skin tones actually show more visible signs of aging than their darker counterparts. Glupa has also been proven effective in slowing down the aging process as glutathione is said to prevent the free radicals that causes aging from oxidizing biological cells.

“Increasing our body’s glutathione reserves and making our body manufacture more glutathione will help delay aging by combating oxidative stress and regenerate new and healthy cells,” Aiza further explains. “Vitamins C and E found in Papaya on the other hand, also aids in cell renewal and provides for a youthful glow. And as sun exposure also contribute to premature aging and skin damage, Glupa’s SPF 15 also serves as a sun block that allows you to be protected when exposed to the sun for up to 15 minutes.”

GLUPA is available in WATSONS, MERCURY DRUGSTORE, SHOPWISE, RUSTANS SUPERMARKET, LANDMARK, 7-11, SOUTHSTAR AND MANSON DRUGSTORES, CHERRY FOODARAMA, TROPICAL HUT, AND PUREGOLD.
