OotD (#2 - #4) by Danah

Hi fatshionistas! :) My sister has been posting her OoTD photos that I just had to post mine too!

The first two outfits are my casual wear for school.

#2 - Boyfriend jeans - I'm the girly-girl between me and my sister but sometimes I just wanna pull off the laid back, boyish look. So here I was, sporting a Gap tee, a Gap pair of jeans with my brown woven belt from Robinsons Dept. Store, some Parisan Plus sandals, my white Polo watch and my Aldo all-around shoulder bag. :)

#3 - The Blush Top - Most days, I'm in my dainty ensembles, mostly inspired by Sakina of Saks in the City. I just adore that French blogger's style! She's so pretty and classy, it absolutely is one of my must-read blogs daily. Anyway, this day I just wanted a simple chic look so I put on my Dorothy Perkins ruffled top, my black denims from Greenhills, my necklaces from Accessorize and Disney Couture (Believe necklace), my bangles fro Robinsons Dept. Store and Guess dress watch. I haven't put on my shoes in this photo because we took this in our room, but I finished off this outfit with my Old Navy black sandals.

#4 - Goldie - So lately I've been obsessing over gold accessories (as you can tell)! After a shopping week with my gorgeous mother and twin, I was able to pick out 4 pieces that're perfect for my wardrobe. Here's a few.

I discovered this accessory line in U Rustan's and it's called Tutti Frutti by Kim Min Sun for Juicy Couture. Their pieces are so adorable, bold and everything screams fabulosity!

The ring for the indecisive (this ring always gets people's attention! It's so fun to wear!)

The rose bangle

I wanted my new accessories to be the focal point of my outfit so I paired them off with my Forever21 top, black skinnies and Old Navy sandals.

These beautiful earrings were given to me by my
grandma, she used to wear them in the 70s!

Check out my fierce nails my sister and I made ourselves! :)

There 'ya go! I guess when it comes to my personal style, the tiniest details matter: from the whole outfit to my nails, it's really the small things that make me feel good. :)

This week was full of so much blessings, with all the quality time we spent with our mom and family, it was definitely a breath of fresh air after a very busy week. :)

Plump love,
Danah

Let's shop FOREVER! (+ OotD #5)

I meant at Forever 21!

Finally our mom had the time to have a girls' day out with us! Our mom is a self-confessed shopaholic (much to our advantage! :D) so she likes bonding with us over shopping.

We've been telling her all about Forever 21 and their collection of beautifully designed clothes that are ALL affordable ever since we paid a visit to the store. I'm so happy that the past Tuesday, she invited us to check it out with her.

As I've mentioned in my previous posts, I'm on a phase of altering my style, clearing out my closet of stuff I haven't used for over a year (check out mi yard sale), and I'm currently buying clothes that will truly be an essential to my style metamorphosis. I just really want pieces that I can mix and match with my other clothes that will come out as stylish, yet effortless.

Forever 21's Heritage collection almost has every piece that I want to add to my wardrobe! After experimenting with the denim jacket from Gap with my other clothes, I realized that wearing a denim vest is a great way to hippie-fy and add boldness to an ensemble too. And then I found this:

and I instantly fell in love! In my head, I already pictured it with my other clothes (and it looked goooooood B)). I wore it and showed it to my mom (she has to be pleased on how an item looks on us first before she buys it for us) and she liked it too! Hooray! The gray hood gave the vest more character (which I love) and it's detachable so I can wear the vest just as it is.

Also, I have a thing for clothes that look laid back and casual (and also vintage looking clothes), that's why I liked this tank top:

It looks hippie-esque to me that's why I bought it (or had my mom buy it for me rather :D).That night, we went to Hard Rock Cafe to watch The '70s Super Band gig (which was really fun!!! Danah will blog about it) and here's how my Outfit of the Day (or night) #5 turned out:

Tank&Vest: Forever21 | Jeans: Dorothy Perkins | Shoes: Parisan Plus (SM Dept. Store)

Eyeglasses: My mom's dresser | Bangles: Robinson's Galleria Dept. Store

I think the outfit does look a bit '70s vintage... What do you think? :)

Anyway, for those of you who haven't visited Forever 21 yet, I just have a few things to say about their items. When it comes to size, the clothes in F21 are inconsistent. Some medium clothes fit me while some large ones were a bit small for me. I guess you just really have to go through the racks and try on the clothes to really know for sure if it will fit you well.

Some clothes and accessories were a bit shoddy too. Some had defects and some had frayed parts. My advice is for you to really check every part and corner of the item you want to buy before paying for it. I think it's because most (if not all) of their items are displayed for customers already so you can't just ask for a new stock. I think being meticulous isn't such a bad thing when it comes to buying new clothes (or any new item for that matter!).

She puts the UMP in PLUMP (#7)

At last! We've found a girl who truly deserves to be featured as the Plump Pinay of the week! :) I've been messaging a lot of girls the past weeks for the interview but most were too busy to reply, and one who did reply made me doubt her advocacy of our cause. After answering the questions that we sent with much "sincerity", we found out somewhere that she's desperate to lose weight (for her career as an actress). I don't have to get much into details, but bottom line is she wants to get rid of her chunk. I don't have anything against her because she does what she does for her passion, but I would rather feature in our blog someone who embodies strength, someone who truly accepts her body whatever size or shape it may be, and is willing to fight for body acceptance. :)

And I think fellow blogger Gazel of Bonjour Gazel epitomizes precisely what I've just said.

*******************************

Gazel is part Filipina, part Chinese descent who currently resides in Canada.

What is your size?

My size is US 18/20.

Who is your style icon?

I have no style icon. I derive my inspiration from fellow bloggers and people I see in everyday life. I guess I also look at magazines too for that but I have no specific person who I look up to for my style.

Favorite store? Asos Curve and Dorothy Perkins

Favorite pieces of clothing to wear?

I

love to wear dresses. You can wear them in the winter, summer, spring. I also love skirts. Basically things that aren't pants! I like to feel comfortable and liberated, plus it's easy to look chic and feminine with a skirt.

Where do you get your confidence from?

I don't have much confidence myself but I definitely get some from my fellow bloggers. I guess also growing up in Canada, you don't grow up with the stigma of "fat is bad" like in the Philippines.

How important are other people’s perception of you to you?

Not that important especially if it's strangers in my everyday life. If I'm at the mall or somewhere and people stare, I don't give two shits (pardon my language). They can stare all they want. However if it's family, it's kind of different though I've changed that and I just say, "Screw it, I'll wear what I want even if I get stares."

Message to other Plump Pinays: I find in our culture, fat is associated with such negativity and I know that people in the Philippines like to poke fun at fat people--and clothes shopping can be especially traumatizing because of all the small sizes. Despite all this, keep your head high. Make things work and ignore the rude comments. Be proud to be a Plump Pinay.

*******************************

Do check out her blog for fashion inspiration and tips! :) I personally love her outfits in the second and fourth photo. Gazel, you're a light and you definitely permeate through the people around you. Continue to shine and be strong! :)

We turnin' Japanese-ah!

I've been hearing my friends rant about the delectable sushis & sashimis and the tongue-asms they've had in this Japanese resto quite new to me and my sister, until finally, I saw a newly-opened branch in Greenhills. The first few branches of Omakase were located in areas we rarely visit, hence the unfamiliarity.

Often times, my friends would recommend it to me when we talk about Japanese cuisine, and so a few weeks ago, my sister and I went just so see (& taste) what the buzz was all about.

To my surprise, the main entrance on the ground floor greeted us with a lounge. I was puzzled, until the waiter led us up the stairs into the second floor of the restaurant which was the actual dining area. I was quite impressed that they provided such a swanky waiting area for their customers, so I assumed this place must be packed most of the time.

When we were finally seated, we ordered their best-selling fresh salmon sashimi, Rock 'n Roll (which IS a roll), Spider roll (soft-shell crab roll) Gyudon, Chicken Teppan, Moyashi Itame (it's like the Japanese version of ginisang toge) and apple shake.

Stacy, too preoccupied with eating! :B

Happy and filled! :)

We got really engrossed in eating all the delicious food that we ordered. Everything tasted GREAT! The food was definitely worth its price though it may be a bit costly for students like us who live on a fixed weekly allowance (that's why we went there with our mom to pay the check :P Thanks mom!). What instantly became our favorites are the salmon sashimi because it was undeniably super fresh and the refreshing apple shake that had the perfect amount of sweetness. And I won't forget to mention their service which was excellent too! Food came on time, and there were waiters waiting (uh, duh) around our area, always available when needed (I kept bugging them to refill our teapot! We're freaks for barley tea!). The waiter that served our table was really friendly and he had a very endearing smile. :) It's always a plus when servers are polite and friendly. Gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside. :>

After our first dining experience in Omakase, we really got hooked, so every time our family ate out a few weeks after, we automatically headed to Omakase for a filling and scrumptious Japanese meal! :)

We turnin' Japanese-ah! YATTA!

OMAKASE is definitely included on our list of favorite restos from now on! :)

RED SCARF JEALOUSY

This chick never fails to make me drool over her amazing style. Her blog name lives up to her name indeed: FATSHIONABLE. Check her out to salivate over her various (yet all gorgeous) Ootd (outfit of the day) photos!

What I love about this outfit is the fact that her top is a scarf! It's so sexy and simple, yet edgy and laid back at the same time. Her overall style doesn't try too hard, yet you take notice, because it's simply rockin'.

I WANT A RED SCARF TO WRAP AROUND MY PORTLY BELLY!!! I'm so jealouzz.

Random thought: I cannot wait to give our layout an extreme make over!

This quote is definitely one of my favorites.

To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; AND NEVER STOP FIGHTING.

Goodnight beautifuls! :*

If your face is too wide, GET A BOTOX.

While driving on my way home from school yesterday, I heard on the radio that Charice Pempengco recently had Botox injected into her face. Because she liked chewing gum, her facial muscles began to enlarge, making her face broad. According to Vicky Belo, the doctor who suggested she undergo the procedure and did the procedure herself, Charice's face was too wide and the Botox would make her face more narrow, hence making her face "camera ready" for her appearance on Glee.

As reported on Yahoo news, her publicist said that the Botox was intended to help remedy her facial muscle pains and NOT for cosmetic reasons. But the same article says that Belo said it was to make her face less wide.

"You chew gum and it turns out to be a favorite super-exercise for these muscles, your chewing muscles. So we will show you, this muscle here it's a bit protruding," Belo said as she touched Charice's face. "It's like a ball, so we are going to Botox that in order to get it flat so she will have a cuter face ... we want to give you the apple cheek look because it's cute, right?"
-- Vicky Belo (from Yahoo! News)

APPARENTLY IT WAS TO GIVE HER THE "APPLE CHEEK LOOK BECAUSE IT'S CUTE" and not to cure any pains, whatsoever.

WHAT THE @#$%^&*(?! Isn't she too friggin' YOUNG to get a Botox??? And what's wrong with having a round face? Didn't she pass the audition for her tremendous singing talent anyway and not because the producers thought that her face was nicely shaped?

And isn't getting a cosmetic procedure against the values and principles that Glee airs to their viewers???

Besides, why go as far as having a cosmetic procedure done just to make her face look slimmer? Couldn't that be magically solved with make-up and contouring?

I feel really disappointed in Charice Pemgpengco for letting this happen, not that I'm a fan of hers in the first place. But this action could be misinterpreted by other teens and kids looking up to her and idolizing her. She's only 18. Who needs a friggin' Botox at 18??? Kids with chubby cheeks and faces could be feeling miserable now, thinking that they're not pretty because they don't have the friggin' APPLE CHEEK LOOK which is cute (according to Belo).

I also think Belo's statement was hilarious. After being on numerous TV guestings (from Ellen to Oprah and many more) and concerts with internationally renowned artists, apparently Charice's face was still not considered "camera ready".

*sigh* When will the Philippine media start esteeming artists with genuine talent for what they can do as performers and not what they look like? This is exactly why a lot of teen "stars" nowadays are all just pretty to look at, but once they start performing, they make you cringe and feel embarrassed for them.

An overdue UPDATE!

Hellew!!! This is gonna be a lengthy update of the things I overlooked due to my busy-ness with school (yeah I'm laying down the "responsibility" card ;) ).

1. I love fellow-blogger Amelia Pontes of Sound Bites. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her on HeyFatChick! I wanted to copy her outfit on the photo so with a little improv I made a personal version. Check uzzout:

The original

The wannabe

What'd'ya think? Did I capture her sense of simple elegance? *bats eyelids with matching grin* Oh BTW, I wore this for my uncle's 30 something-th birthday just last month. :)

2. We just had a phat photoshoot with Jian Alvarez for Kaycee Lim's portfolio! Kaycee is our dearest make-up-artist friend who is currently studying in the Australian Beauty Institute here in Manila. She needed more head shots for her portfolio (and we needed the temporary makeover) so we gladly agreed to be her models. Jian was a very laid back photog who is comfortable doing shoots with plus-size models. I heard not all photographers worked with bigger models, hence our sincere appreciation of him. I really don't get it though, I think bigger models are funNER (or at least as fun as regular models) to work with. Look at all possibility of them curves!

Some of the BEHIND THE SCENES photos:

The finished photos: TO FOLLOW :)

3. Here's my outfit of the day photos (GAP was on sale, I just had to buy those BF pants and V-neck shirt!):

Outfit inspiration: Sakina of Saks in the City

4. Stacy submitted her photo to the celebrated FYCG blog and in less than a couple of hours 70+ people liked, commented on, and reblogged her photo.

She calls this photo, "Don't frown when your mouth is full." I SAY THAT'S WITTY. :)

OK that's it for now! This blog post shall be continued...
